Visit Grenada

Grenada’s capital, St. George’s, is located in the Caribbean. The 18th-century Fort George in the town center gives panoramic views of the island and St. George’s Bay. Fort Matthew, a nearby battleground that later became an asylum, features underground tunnels. Exhibits on the region’s history, particularly the plantation economy and the whaling business, can be found at the Grenada National Museum.

Why You Should Visit St. George's Grenada

St. George’s, Grenada’s capital, is a beautiful city with red-tiled roofed stores and homes dotting the hillside of an old volcano crater. Its stunning horseshoe-shaped harbor and yacht lagoon are must-see views, and the town is a popular stop for cruise ships from around the world.

Almost immediately upon arrival on Grenada’s off-the-beaten-path island, you’ll understand why this gorgeous Caribbean jewel is known as the Spice Island. Grenada’s island-grown cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, turmeric, lemongrass, and other fragrant spices are exported all over the world, and their aromas seem to linger on the breeze or waft through the air everywhere you go.

Grenada is well on its way to becoming the Caribbean’s chocolate capital, with organic cocoa bean harvests giving rise to many bean-to-bar chocolate makers, in addition to its swaths of the verdant landscape dedicated to growing spices and a great range of tropical fruits. Fascinating tours of these production facilities are only one of the numerous ways to pass the time on this verdant island, which, despite its size, has an immense menu of things to see and do.

St George’s, the island’s charming and historically significant capital, has enough to keep you occupied for days. Old Georgian buildings line the waterfront of what many consider the Caribbean’s most beautiful harbor, then climb the slope behind them to colonial forts, museums, and churches. A few of these locations still bear witness to the devastation caused by Hurricane Ivan when it swept through some years ago.
